After a trip to Lebanon, I was inspired to paint this picture of a mother taking pictures of her energetic daughter at the ancient site of Byblos. Byblos is the Greek word for papyrus, which was traded there in ancient times. This ancient city dates from about 8800 BC. The word byblos is the origin of the word “Bible.”

The little girl, running and twirling as her mom took snapshots created a striking contrast with the traditionally dressed woman in the center and her modernity created an even more stark contrast with her ancient surroundings.
